Bedroom Furniture - Make Your Bedroom A Sanctuary

As a whole, most of us tend to focus our decorative ideas on things like living rooms, dens, basements, dining rooms, etc. While these are all important, and should reflect your personality and style, it’s easy to ignore the bedroom. We don’t often consider our bedrooms to be much more than a place to sleep, lounge, etc. But those two actions alone should make you want to turn your bedroom into the ultimate escape of relaxation and comfort. Thankfully, something as simple as your bedroom furniture can do just that.

Start out by listing off a few things that first come to your mind when you think about a personal sanctuary. This will be different for everyone - after all, your bedroom should be a reflection of you, not someone else. Start with the wall color, the decor, and then move onto bigger items like the beddressers, side tables, etc.

The focal point of every bedroom is, of course, the bed. It’s okay to make your bed an investment, and make it absolutely abundant. If it’s going to be the main focus of the room, it should be something luxurious.

Your furniture is truly the foundation of your bedroom. Once you have the details in place for the overall theme, and you have the bed you want, your furniture should accent it. Again, bedroom furniture should be an investment. With so many options, grains, woods, and colors to choose from, it’s an investment that can be incredibly personal. The bottom line? Don’t be afraid to ‘go big’ when it comes to your bedroom. You may spend most of your time just lounging around there, but making it feel like a special occasion each time you get into bed can make a world of difference, and add a lot of value to that room of your home.

Furniture For Holiday Gatherings

The Best Dining Room Furniture Set for Your Holiday Gathering

We don’t often think about the furniture in our dining room until it’s absolutely necessary to do so. The furniture is typically comfortable enough for us to enjoy a quick breakfast, or a dinner with the family. But, when it comes to hosting guests, it’s easy to second guess yourself, and your furniture. Thankfully, there are a few tips you can keep in mind. Whether you’re in the market for a new dining set, or you want to spruce up your own, take into account both timeless classics, and recent trends.

Traditions Never Fade

The holidays are all about family, warmth, and comfort. One way to provide that with dining room furniture is by focusing on something more traditional, vintage, rustic, etc. If you have an old dining set already, you might actually benefit from ‘roughing it up’ a bit more. The distressed look is not only in style right now, but it never goes out of style. Capitalize on a comforting dining set you already have by giving it a more rustic look. There are plenty of online tutorials and step-by-step guides that can help you give your furniture a welcoming farmhouse appeal.

Modern Comfort

People also tend to think about class and sophistication at the holidays. If you’re in the market for new dining room furniture, don’t be afraid to make a bold statement. Rich, warm colors will never go out of style. Oversized tables and chairs will make every meal feel like a special occasion. Clean, smooth lines will make the dining set comfortable enough to use all year long, even for a simple, casual meal.

Whatever you decide, know that dining room furniture should reflect your space and personality all the time. How you decorate and accent it for the holidays is also completely a personal choice. So, choose your modern flare, or timeless traditional look, and your friends and family will love it.

What To Do On Thanksgiving

By Mike's Furniture

Are you tired of gorging on Thanksgiving and feeling like you’re about to burst? Then why not organize activities to get you and your guests to stop focusing on the stuffed bird that you just ingested! Here are some ideas to keep you busy while you burn off the massive feast you just had:

  •      Play Touch Football

If the majority of your family/guests are sports fans, then suggesting a touch football game might be a hit! Besides, seeing as they are sports fans, it might be a good way to pry their eyes away from the television.

  •     Play Board Games

Who said a little healthy competition never helped families bond on Thanksgiving? Pick a board game that everyone agrees upon and play multiple rounds to crown this year’s Thanksgiving board-game champion. Remember to be a good sport!

  • Watch the Parade

Since 1948, families have enjoyed watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Watching floats, giant balloons and marching bands roam down the streets of New York is a magical and fun way to spend the holiday with children.

  • Give Thanks

This is what the holiday is really about: giving thanks. Have your guests give thanks and take the time to write down something they are thankful for. Showing gratitude will help the children learn about the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

  • Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen

Perhaps one of the most admirable ways to spend part of Thanksgiving is to serve food to the less fortunate. Whether it is at a soup kitchen, in a church or at a community center, this is surely a rewarding way to spend the holiday. If you cannot be present to serve the meal, you can pitch in by collecting and sorting donated food.

The purpose of this holiday is to express gratitude. It should inspire you to spend some quality time with your friends and family. Have fun while creating fond memories! Gratitude also helps you to connect with other people. Another way to harness your appreciation is to bless others.  If you are not spending Thanksgiving with friend and family this year, why not help out those in need. Happy Thanksgiving!

All You Need To Know About Memory Foam Mattress

By Mike's Furniture

Does your body ache every morning? Are you restless and sleepless? A memory foam mattress can help remedy these problems and make the day feel better. Lucky for you, the memory foam invented by NASA 50 years ago to protect astronauts is now used in mattresses. When you lie on a memory foam mattress, its soft foam adjusts to every part of your body from head to foot. The temperature-sensitive material distributes body weight evenly and reduces pain. If you suffer with back, neck, hip and joint pain, mattress brands like Ashley-Sleep®, Tempur-Pedic® and other premium brands are perfect for you. They adapt to your body so you can rest easy in personalized comfort. Add an adjustable base and with the touch of a button, you’ll discover that perfect ergonomic position. In addition to pain relief, there are five more great health benefits of memory foam mattresses.

HELPS EASE SLEEP APNEA
When a memory foam mattress and pillow are used together, your head will be properly elevated. This helps clear the path to easier breathing because your airways are no longer obstructed.

HELPS ALLERGY SUFFERERS
There’s nothing to sneeze at with memory foam. Since these mattresses are made of polyurethane foam, the interior of your mattress will always be free of allergy-causing dust mites. By eliminating one of the major allergens, these mattresses can also help control asthma.

IMPROVES METABOLISM
If your partner constantly tosses and turns, you’ll never know it with a memory foam mattress. The foam isolates all motion and you’ll enjoy uninterrupted sleep. This will positively impact your metabolism, which may in turn help you lose weight, deal with daily stress and improve your overall health.

PROVIDES PROPER SPINAL ALIGNMENT
Contouring support provided by a memory foam mattress keeps the back aligned and delivers pressure-relieving comfort while you sleep. This helps with preventing back pain and future spinal problems. As time goes on, these mattresses are less likely to sag and lose shape, so your back will not suffer.

Living Room Sets: Mix and Match

pic1
Living Room Sets: Mix & Match
The living room or family room is known to be the family’s favorite room to chat together and spend some quality time.  This room should combine a mix of warmth and comfort, in order to enable a family to be inclined to gather in this space. Style, comfort and quality all matter to pull off this setting.  In order to achieve this mood, one must select the appropriate pieces to blend together. Blending furniture pieces in a living room does not necessarily imply that they must be from the same collection. On the contrary, a good living room design is a mix of cohesive pieces that blend in color, style and texture. In fact, one might say that even some opposites work well together to create an eclectic mix.
Sofa:
The Azlyn sofa features a vintage casual style, and infuses a mixed media look in such an elegant manner. In this mixture, we have exposed feet in a wood finish, a nailhead trim and gorgeous tufted upholstery. The curvaceous rolled arms provide added character to the sofa. Despite the elegance of the piece, the warm earthy tones create an inviting atmosphere.
Chair(s):
The Kannerdy chair features elegant refinement and rugged good looks that blend beautifully with the selected sofa. The dramatic style of the turned feet and the Charles of London arms enhance the English style with this pairing. In addition, the muted neutral tones harmonize well together and create an opportunity to add little pops of color in the room. Lastly, depending on the dimensions of your room, for an optimal design, allow for two chairs facing the sofa.
Ottoman:
Finally, the Hindell Park ottoman features a vintage casual style with button tufting detail.  The soft upholstery brightens any room with its colorful and soothing pattern. You’ll enjoy the comfortable atmosphere set by this ottoman once you have your feet up!
Although these pieces are very different and unique in their own way, some key elements such as the similarities with the feet, the muted natural tones and elegant refinement make them mesh well together.

Bedroom Sets: Mix & Match

Bedroom Sets: Mix and Match:
Did you know that the average person spends 33% of their lifetime sleeping? This statistic is based on 8 hours of sleep per day. That being said, if you spend one third of your lifetime in yourbedroom, then why not make it into a beautiful retreat and comfortable haven? So how exactly are you supposed to achieve a look that reflects peace and tranquility? Opt for neutral tones and gorgeous natural materials. In fact, here are a few propositions to help paint you a picture!

Bed:
The Maribel B138 Panel Bed features a beautiful relaxed cottage design with an urban appeal. The details along the scalloped top and base are bathed in a rich black finish, to create an earthy aesthetic.  This is an exemplary piece of how to transform your bedroom décor into an inviting atmosphere.
Nightstand:
Who said that bedroom furniture needed to be matchy-matchy and from the same collection? Mixing furniture pieces from different collections can be just as delightful! The Charlowe B013-191 nightstand pairs beautifully with the panel bed, as it enhances the dark undertones found in the grain of the planks. The vintage charm of this piece, along with the distressing marks fit well with the casual cottage design of the bed.

Dresser:
Finally, who can forget a staple piece in the bedroom, the dresser! The Emerfielddresser features a chic farmhouse style which would work well from a country cottage to an urban city loft. The lovely two-tone finish and weatherworn appeal will add a bit of warmth to all the black hues paired together with all the pieces. In addition, the round metal hardware echoes the vintage-inspired look as seen on the nightstand.

As you can see, the edgy blend of these three pieces from separate collections is an argument well disputed – that random pieces can be put together to create a well-harmonized bedroom style.

Boys Bedroom Sets

pic1
Boy’s Bedroom:
Is your little tyke growing up to be quite the young man? Every parent wants to offer their little boy a space that is a reflection of their personality and interests. At this point, your son has outgrown his toddler-sized furniture and is ready to embrace a more mature look in his bedroom. Planes, trains, trucks and toys, there’s nothing quite like little boys! That being said, transform your son’s room with that boyhood spirit he has always wanted! The idea is to try to combine his interests with practicality and quality, so that his furniture can last… until he reaches his tween years of course!
Bed:
If you’re looking to change his bed, then you do not have one of those transformable cribs that can go from a crib to a daybed, and even a double bed! If your son had a toddler bed, then he likely outgrew it a while ago, and so you need something a little more mature-looking to mesh well with the new bedroom theme. Among the favorites for little boys are bunk bedsloft beds and trundle beds which are awesome for sleepovers. They are fun, functional and provide great storage!
pic2
Dresser:
Next, you need a dresser. Once you’ve chosen the bed, you can take a look at the matching dresser. However, if bedroom space is an issue, then a tall dresser is the better choice. You can still have loads of storage, but in a vertical manner.
pic3
Desk:
At this point, the little guy is not likely to get any homework assignments, but you can always opt for a desk as a craft station. That way you can tame the mess and keep it local! Eventually, he will get homework anyway!
pic4
Nightstand:
Last, but not least, the nightstand is a must for his bedside. It’s less likely to be a piece that is emphasized in a nursery set, but now you can get the matching nightstand for his new set. Aside from being handy for extra storage, he can use it to display home décor such as a table lamp, frames and an alarm clock.

Girl's Bedroom Sets

Girl’s Bedroom:
Is your little girl growing up fast and out of her baby furniture? Bye-bye baby, hello young lady! Every parent wants to make their little girl feel like a princess, by offering them a space that reflects their unique personality. Yes, redecorating can be quite overwhelming, but the idea is to incorporate some of your daughter’s main interests into an overall scheme. That way, she can enjoy her room for years to come…until she hits her tweens of course!

The bed:
If you’re looking to change her bed, you’ve most likely kept your daughter’s transformable crib or toddler bed until she outgrew it. Now you can go for something a little more mature-looking to mesh well with her theme. By this point, most little girls admire princesses. So the question is, how do you picture a princess bed? Most girls are taken by a poster bed or daybed! They have that princess quality! A neat feature that would really come in handy is the option of adding a trundle below. That way, your daughter can enjoy sleepovers!

Dresser:
Then there’s the dresser. Choosing the perfect bedroom furniture means getting the look, along with the function and quality. If bedroom space is an issue, selection a tall dresser would be a better option. Although a little girl may not need all of the storage space just yet, who’s to say she won’t eventually become a frequent mall visitor at some point! Even princesses like to change dresses.

Desk:
Another important piece is a desk. Although you might be selecting these furniture pieces before your daughter is subjected to any homework assignments, you can begin by using it as a craft station.

Nightstand:
Finally, how can we forget the nightstand? Every bedside is in need of one!  This is a piece that is not as likely to be included in a nursery. However, at this stage, it can come in handy for extra storage or to display décor such as a table lamp, frames and an alarm clock!

The Autumnal Equinox: A Great time for Lighting Your Home

pic1
The Autumnal Equinox: A Great Time For Lighting Your Home
As you know, the autumnal equinox is an astronomical event that occurs once yearly in which the Earth orbits around the sun. At that moment, the sun crosses the celestial equator, in order to enter the sky’s northern hemisphere. It is said that after this event, days and nights are almost the same length. However, this also means that days are shorter than in periods of solstice, which in turn requires more lighting. Therefore, this is the perfect timing to ensure that your home is well-lit in the absence of daylight. Let’s take a closer look at some stylish and efficient light fixtures for your home:
1)      Floor lamps:
The floor standing lamp is a traditional fixture that comes in different shapes and designs. It is a great way to add style & ambiance to a room, since they do not cover as much ground. This fixture is perfect for a living room, as it can serve well for reading or lighting the room while enjoying your favorite tv shows.
pic2
2)      Pendant light:
A pendant light fixture is one that hangs from the ceiling by means of a cord, chain or rod. It usually includes one to several lightbulbs that are not combined into one single unit. The beauty of this fixture-type is that you can find many styles, colors, and even textures! From vintage-inspired glass, to industrial metal and a casual organic weave, a pendant light fixture will bring a unique accent to your room.

3)      Table lamps:
The table lamp is yet another classic. This lamp will ensure that any table in your home has perfect lighting. It is the ultimate measure to fine-tune your atmosphere in a room, whether you need extra lighting or want to dim the room. They come in a number of shapes, sizes and colors. From bold to muted, you will not have any difficulty finding your desired look.

Choosing a light fixture has become less mundane, as today’s wide selection will not only help you achieve a well-lit room, but also give you an abundance of style options.

Traditional Home Design

Traditional Home Design:

Traditional furniture & home décor has thrived for so long and with reason! Although the traditional style is stale and outdated, a look that reflects the past preserves a sense of familiarity and comfort. Traditional deemed rooms emphasize formal arrangements which encourage conversation, with curvy furniture that avoids sharp angles and neutral colors that do not make a large statement. Instead, beauty is found in the finishing touches, such as molding and trims. If a piece is not timeless, then it is not graceful enough to fit in this type of décor! Here is a traditional home décor video to help you get started.
